At Growth Point Collaborative Therapy, I offer professional couples therapy outside Asheville, NC, tailored to your unique relationship dynamics.
How Couples Therapy Helps Your Relationship
Couples therapy is designed to create deep mutual understanding, resolve conflicts, and restore the foundation of trust. Whether you are dating, engaged, married, or navigating a long-term commitment, therapy can help you:
-
Improve communication and conflict resolution skills
-
Rebuild trust after infidelity or betrayal
-
Strengthen emotional and physical intimacy
-
Navigate major life transitions together
-
Overcome persistent patterns of negativity
-
Develop a shared vision for the future
My goal is to create a solid relationship with each partner, so you both can express yourselves openly and work toward lasting change and be held accountable while feeling support for your needs.
Don't worry, I'll also be frank and direct to get you the shifts in perspective that you see a therapist to get.
My Approach to Couples Therapy
At Growth Point Collaborative, I integrate several influences and approaches to support your relationship's growth. These include:
Postmodern Analytic Therapy
Feminist analysis is an approach to psychotherapy which takes into account the external factors surrounding a person as they develop. It also brings considerations of gender and other identity features as they impact one's social location and thereby one's sense of safety in the world.
Often, couples get help from me about the distribution of labor in their homes... aka, who does what, and how we feel about it. If you're noticing resentment as you clean, or feelings of avoidance and guilt, couple's therapy is a good space to explore that and reset expectations with your partner.
Attachment Theory
As a couples' therapist, I'm primarily concerned with the behaviors and feelings of partners, looking for the function and wisdom of each. Often adults show up to relationships with leftover healing to do from their family of origin, which lets us know what kind of needs a person will subconsciously be trying to meet through behaviors with their romantic partner.
When people in therapy describe reactions to each other that do not match the scenario, or a continuous pattern of problematic interactions, we can often look to a person's history of relationships to find out how it started. We explore everyone's story to gather emotional information.
Trauma-informed Care
Trauma-informed Care in the couple's context considers both the trauma histories of each member, and of the relationship itself. Everybody knows what a relationship "rough patch" is, and we spend time in therapy reprocessing and healing up leftover wounds from those relational traumas.
We also take a look at each person's history of relational pain, so that everyone has insight into their sensitive spots, and can differentiate the present from the past, and begin acting intentionally.
Needless to say, we really get into it. People often walk away feeling stimulated and relieved, with increased clarity about what's happening in the relationship. Sound good?
Who Can Benefit from Couples Therapy?
Couples therapy isn’t just for relationships in crisis—it’s for any set of folks looking to strengthen their bond. Therapy can be beneficial if you and a partner are experiencing:
-
Frequent arguments or miscommunication
-
Emotional distance or lack of connection
-
Trust issues, including infidelity recovery
-
Major life changes, such as parenting, relocation, or career shifts
-
Struggles with intimacy or sexual concerns
-
Differences in values, expectations, or life goals
By addressing these challenges in therapy, you can rediscover connection, build resilience, and create a healthier relationship dynamic.
